How does Halstrom High School® - Online differ from other online programs?
Students receive real-time, individualized instruction over the Internet and sometimes using videoconferencing technology. Because instruction is individualized, assignments reflect the learning style and personal needs of each student.

Is Halstrom High School® - Online (HHS) accredited?
Yes! Halstrom High School® - Online is accredited by the Northwest Association of Accrediting Schools (NAAS).

Who founded HHS?
In 1985, Dr. Karen Glynn Bishop founded the first Futures High School in Southern California as an alternative to traditional high school. Since that time, Futures High School has grown to three campuses in Southern California: Vista, Mission Viejo and San Diego. With the success of the Halstrom educational community, HHS-O was founded to extend the benefits of the Halstrom's concept and curriculum to students throughout the world.

Are Halstrom High School® courses approved?
Yes. Halstrom offers "a-g" approved courses from University of California/California State University as well as approved courses from NCAA.

Do colleges and universities accept students from HHS?
Yes. However, each college has its own entrance requirements. Please check with the colleges you plan on attending to see if they accept high school diplomas that are accredited by NAAS.

Can students transfer to other high schools?
Yes. Students may transfer to another high school. Each high school has its own transfer policy and course requirements. Please check with the high school for their policies.

Can I enroll at anytime?
Yes. Open enrollment allows students to begin coursework at any time of the year. A secure online course management system allows a student/parent/teacher partnership by providing access to assignments, grades and progress reports.

How much time is required of the student?
Students meet with their teachers once each week per course. At least five hours of preparation will be needed for each appointment with the teacher. Students are required to demonstrate mastery in each concept before beginning the next assignment. Five units of credit include 15 to 17 appointments as well as the preparation time.

How is student success measured?
Performance assessment, standard proficiency tests, teacher quizzes and the ability to use the concepts in the real-world context are all part of the HHS - Online measurement. Assessment involves a variety of techniques and focuses on, but is not limited to, the preferred learning style of each student.

Does Halstrom offer more than just academics?
Our learning results provide guidelines for students to become independent and productive. A successful student is equipped to live a self-sufficient and fulfilled life. Halstrom's students communicate effectively, solve problems creatively, direct their own learning, participate in the community and are aware of college and career options.
